COMMON SAFETY STANDARDS RELATING TO THE LIGHTING INDUSTRY
UL 8750 – This safety standard covers light-emitting diode equipment for use in lighting products. Products certified to this standard can also obtain type HL designation, this indicates that the product is intended to operate in hazardous locations such as oil refineries and chemical plants.
UL 879 – This safety standard is specifically used for electric sign components; this applies to anything from neon signs to electrical advertising billboards.
UL 1310 – This safety standard covers Class 2 power supplies and battery chargers. The power supplies provide output power levels in the coordinates with a national electrical code, this ensures that the energy output of the unit is safe to touch as the standard is aimed at products that are primarily low voltage, electrically operated devices.
